I was taking a break from social media and I spent my time on binge-watching Netflix. Anime and J-Drama always been my interests since I was a kid. I happened to find this Japanese Drama titled, Can’t Write; a Life Without Scenario.

I did not expect this series would be so hilarious. I even laugh my ass off couple of times. But the first thing that catches my eyes was, their house and Nami’s office (since I have a dream to become a writer, too).

The story line was simple but somehow, Ikuta Toma, the main actor who played Keisuke, really brings out the story and the character. I mean, how he managed to always look charming in every problems (scenes) he’s dealing with.

Seeing Keisuke’s struggle as a screenwriter is something I can relate to. Like every time he finished writing one episode, it feels like half of his problem was taken off from his body but then he starts writing another episode and all of his worries, his doubt, his anxiety even the hallucinations (The Skinhead Man) are coming all at once directly to him.

Anyway, I did not expect that this series portrays about how Keisuke’s dealing with his own anxiety. Spoiler alerts!! The Skinhead Man was Kaisuke himself. Quote unquote, our worst/biggest enemy is our own mind. Even the Keisuke’s psychiatrist also suggest Keisuke to say, “you’re me, because you’re me, i accept you” to The Skinhead Man when he appears. Somehow this line was so true.

Sometimes, the anxiety that come in our mind is something that we create by ourself. Either we learn to accept our flaw or don’t let that fear consumes us. In the first few episodes, Keisuke let The Skinhead Man consumes him. But along the way, he learned to walk with The Skinhead Man a.k.a his anxiety. And he wins over his anxiety.

Other than Keisuke’s struggle, I really love seeing other characters.

Nami, his wife who’s really calm, supportive, and a genius novelist. Even the perfect character like her had issue too with herself because she doesn’t wanna let her husband down. How lovely?!

Seeing Erika, Sora, Sengawa, and others were also really fun, tho! My opinion for Sakurako, from the first time I saw her, I don’t think that Keisuke ‘fall for another woman’, but he’s just craving for the compliment he got from one of his fans (?) since for a long time, he’s jus a househusband that failed at chasing his dream while his wife is being so successful after all.

In conclusion, this series was a superb! I’m so happy I found Can’t Write; a Life Without Scenario on Netflix by accident. Heartwarming, loving, fun, feel-good, and of course, entertaining. It’s well-written and entertaining at the same time, IYKYK. I rate 4 out of 5.
